CARE4 kicks-off with a big celebration

We have officially kicked-off a project that will transform healthcare in our region – a major Health Information System (HIS) transformation.

On January 22, 600 physicians and staff from Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH); Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH); Headwaters Health Care Centre (HHCC) and Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), all gathered at their sites at the same time to celebrate our partnership and this exciting project.

This most advanced version of MEDITECH, called “Expanse”, enhances access to patient records across all four organizations enabling a more seamless flow of information. This project, which will go-live in early-2021, will improve the safety and quality of patient care as well as your day-to-day work experience.

In the summer, more than 800 staff and physicians from all four sites provided feedback on the MEDITECH tool and shared great ideas about a project name and visual identity.

With your input, we developed an easily-identifiable brand that will inspire us, and act as one source of information for this project: CARE4 – Connecting Access Regional Exchange.  A project mascot (right) was also created to unite the project and will help you identify important project information and events.

A message from the CEOs

The excitement and enthusiasm from staff and physicians at each of our hospitals at the CARE4 kick-off was an amazing thing to witness.

This HIS upgrade will greatly improve the safety and quality of patient care as well as the provider experience. And, although we just recently kicked-off the project, many months of preparation, planning and consultation have already happened to get us to this point. In fact, we’ve executed a very robust Human Resources recruitment strategy to ensure our CARE4 team of experts is in place and raring to go! To-date 130 individuals have been placed in project roles. These CARE4 team members have been diligently working behind the scenes, visiting our four sites, understanding work-flows and ensuring technical requirements are in place.

While it seems the GO LIVE date is a long way off, it is only a year away. This week we reached another major milestone of receiving the new software from MEDITECH. This will allow the build teams to start tailoring the software system to meet our partnership’s requirements.

So, stay tuned and get ready for a ride that will be fun, exciting, challenging and cutting edge for patient care.
